GALLERY / FRANK LLOYD WRIGHT

Iowa

Iowa is home to 14 different Wright sites, most notably, the only remaining Wright-designed hotel in the world, the Historic Park Inn Hotel (HPIH) in Mason City.

Iowa is also home to the only still standing original in-tact River Pavilion (Boathouse) at the Lowell Walter house in Cedar Rock State Park. The Walter house also includes a circular designed hearth called the "Council Fire" where Wright and some apprentices celebrated the completion of the house.

Iowa also saved Wright's first extant house, the prairie style G.C. Stockman home in Mason City, by moving it a few blocks when it was threatened by demolition in 1989.

The Paul and Ida Trier house in Johnston was modeled after an exhibition house built onsite at the Guggenheim Museum in New York City. The Johnston home was also the last house Wright built in Iowa.
