WORKSHOPS / ADVANCED WORKSHOPS

Different Lighting Situations Scouted for Specific Compositions

Visit The Events Calendar For A List Of All Upcoming Advanced Workshops

Knowledge of ISO, shutter speed, and aperture required for Advanced Workshops.

As addressed in the Intermediate workshop, practice makes perfect, and that plays a larger role in the Advanced workshop where we explore multiple sites in different lighting situations. Each site is pre-scouted, and specific compositions are discussed before you explore using your own creative direction. One-on-one discussion and shooting with the instructor are provided at each site. Guided editing time in Adobe Lightroom Classic is provided, allowing the student to hone in on specific challenges within their images. The two most important aspects of the Advanced workshop are plenty of practice time with your camera and subject, and more in-depth critique sessions than provided in the Intermediate workshop.

Admitting what does and does not work in photos allows student photographers to grow. Areas of improvement are not always easy to recognize in your own images; thus, interactive critique sessions will improve your photography. The benefit of learning how to properly critique other photographer’s images will give you a much more balanced approach when critiquing your own. Critiquing your photos quickly on site, is a great skill that will help you capture what you envisioned before editing. Constructively critiquing edited images with fellow photographers is a great way to really dial in your images and determine whether the message and emotion you wanted to express translates.

Review from Google:

“Andrew is both an excellent photographer and accomplished instructor. He makes the foundational concepts and practices required for successful digital photography clear through presentations, guided practice, and terrific written materials. Andrew has the ability to quickly build a positive learning community where people with very different backgrounds and skill sets can come together to experience the kind of fellowship Frank Lloyd Wright established at Taliesin.”

Photograph, Experience, and Stay in the Last Remaining Hotel Designed by Frank Lloyd Wright.

Join internationally published architecture and travel photographer Andrew Pielage at the Historic Park Inn Hotel in Mason City, Iowa for a photo workshop experience truly like no other!

This 3-day workshop includes a tour and exclusive interior and exterior photography access not usually given at each of the three Wright sites:

HISTORIC PARK INN HOTEL [Sunrise Shoot]

Frank Lloyd Wright designed only six hotels, all of which were created between 1908 an 1923. Five were built; the Park Inn is the second and the only one that survives[1]. It can be found in the National Registry of Historic Places. HPIH website

Included in the workshop is a 60-min. professionally guided tour led by Wright on the Park.

STOCKMAN HOUSE [Sunset Shoot]

A prime example of Wright’s Prairie School style, it is a compact Foursquare design with appendages on opposite sides for an entrance foyer and a veranda. The Stockman House is a stucco- over-frame construction, unlike the original Fireproof House which was to be constructed with reinforced concrete. Stockman House website

Included exclusively with this workshop group is a private tour and the rare opportunity to photograph the interior of the house, this is NOT permitted with any other group tour or private tour.

WALTER HOUSE/QUASQUETON/CEDAR ROCK [Sunset Shoot]

At Cedar Rock, Wright realized the dream of Mr. and Mrs. Walter, to show the world that something of distinct architectural beauty, simplicity, and sophistication could be created and enjoyed in Iowa. Cedar Rock is one of just 24 signature properties designed by Wright. Cedar Rock website

Included in the workshop is a private tour led by Cedar Rock.
