Principles of Organic Architecture in the Photographs of Andrew Pielage

Poster by Adam Štěch

FRANK LLOYD WRIGHT x ORGANIC PRINCIPLES

Wright's fascination with the interplay between buildings and their environments led him to propose that structures should effortlessly complement their surroundings, giving rise to unified spaces that seemingly emerge from the land. He envisioned structures that function like organisms, where every design element is intricately connected, forming a harmonious and coherent entity.

Two years before his death in 1959, Wright published 'A Testament,' a collection of essays in which he completed his list of architectural principles reflecting his organic philosophy. 'Frank Lloyd Wright x Organic Principles' explores a few of them through the insightful lens of American photographer Andrew Pielage. Graphic design layout by Preston Charles Rayhons.

“And it is quite impossible to consider the building one thing and its furnishings another, its setting and environment still another. In the spirit in which these buildings are conceived, these are all one thing, to be foreseen and provided for in the nature of the structure. They are all mere structural details of its character and completeness. Heating apparatus, lighting fixtures, the very chairs and tables, cabinets and musical instruments, where practicable are of the building itself.”
