The Weltzheimer-Johnson House #115

The Weltzheimer-Johnson House. Ohio.

The Weltzheimer-Johnson House. Oberlin, Ohio (1948).

Meet the newest member of my #500fllwproject to photograph all remaining Frank Lloyd Wright sites around the world.

It’s number #115 on my list. The Weltzheimer-Johnson House is the first of nine Usonian homes to be built in Ohio, and the only non-Californian Usonian to use redwood, and croquet balls (exterior) for that matter. It was constructed in 1948 and 1949.

Now owned by Oberlin College, it is operated as part of the @allenartmuseum. This simple design is all about the details, I haven’t seen such detailed millwork in a Usonian before. The more time you spend in it the more you noticed. I loved the ceiling shapes and details and the kitchen was interesting as well (center of photo).

Big thanks to the Allen museum for being part of the project. They do tours but are closed for the season.
