Taliesin West Kids Photo Camp (Recap + Student Gallery)

🔺

Monday

Great start to summer photography camp at Taliesin West, @wrighttaliesin. We talked everything from where the battery is to focal length to the difference between jpeg and raw image files. Then ended with a run through of all the auto modes on their cameras. Here they are practicing action or sports mode. Freezing the top of the water fountain. They nailed it! Tomorrow is aperture and depth of field.

Tuesday

That’s a wrap on day two of kids photography camp at Taliesin West @wrighttaliesin. It was the usual…learning about depth of field, aperture and doing live news interviews on a moments notice. Never a dull moment up here. 🤣 Tomorrow brings shutter speed, light painting and who knows what else but I’m looking forward to it. 📷😎

Wednesday

Great day in the desert. Following in Frank Lloyd Wright experimenting with light inside the Kiva at Taliesin West @wrighttaliesin, we learned shutter speed and how to paint with light today. Using a longer shutter speed the students were able to capture light from a flashlight in a pitch black room. (See second image).

Thursday

Meet the crazy crew…I mean the future of photography everybody. We didn’t have annnnny fun this week 😁 They might be smiling but they also put in the work up at Taliesin West (@wrighttaliesin) I was blown away by the photos they captured this week. I’ll be posting a student gallery next so you can see their work. The future looks bright 😎 Stay tuned.

Student Gallery 1

Without further ado…..I present the Taliesin West summer camp (session one) STUDENT GALLERY. This is the vertical edition. I don’t like to tell the students exactly what to shoot, that really squashes the whole point of inspiration. Instead I give them ideas and the tools to tell that story of inspiration through their images. These are the objects, shapes and colors that inspired them. Bonus: We print the images out so the students (and parents) can have their own little refrigerator gallery at home. 📷

Student Gallery 2

Round Two: Here is the Taliesin West summer camp (session one) STUDENT GALLERY, horizontal edition. One day, I gave the kids a shot list of general themes or ideas to find as we did our photo walk. One theme was “Happy” and a student named Hale was so excited he had found an old model car in a window. He said he was happy because he loves learning about old car and planes. Check it out. It’s always so interested to see what inspires kids in their photography.

Still a few spots left in the June 27 – July 1, 9:00 am-12:00 pm session.
