Frank Lloyd Wright x Organic Principles Photography Exhibit Opening in Prague
The exhibit came about through the curator of the Adolf Loos designed Villa Winternitz in Prague, Adam Stech (more on him in a minute), he had been following me on social media for awhile and the 2023 exhibits all focused on organic architecture, so Adam thought my photography along with the godfather of organic architecture, Frank Lloyd Wright would be a great way to end those series of exhibits.
Now I knew Wright was an organic architect but at the time I had only really heard of his "organic principles" I hadn't dove into the research of what exactly they were and his definition of them. So research and research and research I did. Why so much research? Cause there are a probably more than a million books on Frank Lloyd Wright....ok you're right only half a million. =)
Well he actually published his organic principles a few different times but come to find out he had talked about a few of them for the first time in 1894, before any of the publications came out. Now over that 65 year span of his life, the principles didn't really change all that much, he added some from the 1894 list but the only real difference is how he defined and articulated them. They are further developed and more easily understood in the later years of "A Testament" in 1957, so I choose to use some from that list. They are as follows:
Kinship of Building to Ground
Decentralization
Character is a Natural
The Third Dimension: Interpretation
Space
Form
Shelter: Inherent Human Factor
Materials
Now, I'm not going to get into the meat and potatoes of the exhibit here because after the exhibit closes in Prague in Feb 2024, I will be hosting it at my own gallery, The Brill Gallery and Studio in Phoenix, Arizona in March. (Early bird RSVP) So you can find out all the organic details and of course, some decent photography to illustrate them in March. You can find more details on the gallery here. Ok fine, here is a sneak peek of one of the organic principles being played out at Fallingwater. The design and layout of these "panels" was done by the impressively creative and talented Preston Charles.
Just a quick note, as promised on Adam Stech. He is a great guy and I am so thankful and humbled by his request to do an exhibit with him. He is also a great photographer and has spend his life traveling and documenting any and all of the signifiant architecture from literally around the world. It's really impressive.
