Dune du Pilat. Arcachon Bay, France
Had a chance to check out Dune du Pilat in France. The largest and tallest sand dunes in Europe.
With this heat wave we couldn’t spend a bunch of time sinking in the sand but it was quiet the view. The dunes are right up to the Atlantic Ocean on the west and are bordered by forest on the other sides. It actually kind of felt like northern Michigan substituting a great lake for the ocean.
To give you a sense of scale, Great Sand Dunes NP in Colorado tallest dune is 230 meters / 750 feet, The Dunes de Plat is 102 meters / 334 feet. This was an unexpected check off my sand dunes list and impressive to say the least.
