Drive-Thru Gallery (DTG) to Brill Gallery & Studio (BGS)

In July 2016 I wrote this “goodbye” on Facebook from the Drive Thru Gallery, a community photography gallery that I had opened in downtown Phoenix Art District three years earlier.

Drive-Thru Gallery fb post from July 1, 2016

The Drive-Thru Photography Gallery & Studio is closing!

It was such an honor to host over 50 local photographers in the Drive-Thru and to help build and support the creative culture in our weird little Roosevelt Row Arts Community over the past 3 years.

Although the D.T.G is closing as a photography gallery this is not the end...It will continue as a gallery space in another form. Go check it out!

I am sad to be leaving the gallery. I am super excited to announce that my wife and I bought a house (a 1921 Craftsman) and will be opening up a photography gallery/studio in the Garfield Historical District in the fall. It's important to us to continue supporting and contributing to our vibrant arts communitv in Downtown Phoenix.

A BIG THANKS to all that came out to support me and the gallery over the years. We had some awesome times!!!

More info on the new photography gallery in the next few months. Make sure to friend Andrew Pielage to keep in touch.

The DTG was my first time creating, curating and opening photograph shows, a new artist and show every month.

From the very beginning it was never my intention to display only my photography work, through my own unsuccessful attempt to show at other galleries when I was first starting out. With these experiences, I realized a need to create a safe space for up and coming, super talented photographers to gain experiences having their first show. Displaying your work, whatever your art that is, can be very scary, I know it was for me. And on to poptop of that I had no idea how to even put a professional show together, it was all very daunting.

That is where the DTG came in. It was an opportunity to help guide first time showing photographers how to create and implement a successful show for the hundreds of people that would come through the DTG each opening.

As the final Facebook post mentioned, my wife and I did buy at house nearby but what I didn’t know at the time was that it would be seven years later before we could open the next generation of the DTG, we are calling this the Brill Gallery & Studio in honor of the Brill Streetcar line of the early 1900’s that ran next to our house.
