WORKSHOPS / INTERMEDIATE WORKSHOPS

Scouting A Site, Light And Composition, Adobe Lightroom Editing, And Critique

We learn and practice the creative side of photography in the Intermediate and Advanced Workshops. With a comfortable knowledge of shutter speed, aperture and ISO, we are looking to take your photography to the next level. Learning the creative side is more challenging than the camera side, and it is best acquired through repetition and feedback. The more practice shooting, making mistakes, and learning from them the better. The creative side is not just though taking photos. A key part of this process and intermediate workshop is taught through lessons like how to scout, how to read the light and site, advanced composition, editing in Adobe Lightroom Classic, and interactive image critique.

In the Intermediate workshop, detailed instructions on how to navigate the interface and edit your photos in Adobe Lightroom Classic is taught using images I provide and images you took minutes before. This technique covers the whole process from pushing the shutter button to printing your photos. After capturing your images using these new techniques and carefully editing them to really dial in the subject, composition, and emotions, it’s time to get feedback from your peers in a fun and constructive way.

Admitting what does and does not work in your photos is an essential component of learning and growing as a photographer. Areas of improvement are not always easy to recognize in your own images. Critiquing and getting critiqued will improve your photography. The benefit of learning how to properly critique other photographers’ images will give you a much more balanced scale when critiquing your own. Critiquing your own photos quickly, on site is a great skill to help dial in your images to capture what you envisioned before you edit. Constructively critiquing your final images after editing with fellow photographers is a great way to improve your images and determine whether the message and emotion you were trying to express translates.

"I took Andrew’s Intermediate workshop at Taliesin East last weekend. I wanted to improve my skills to make natural light a key element in my photographs, rather than simply illuminate the subject or scene. The class delivered this plus I honed my skills on Lightroom and so much more. The Taliesen experience was incredible too, as was the opportunity to learn alongside a diverse group of other photographers. Andrew is a great instructor and he made it fun. I highly recommend taking one of his workshops."
